1.
I'm sorry to ask this generic question, but
since you are a relatively new band, many
people may want to know the origins of
AMMONAL. Can you ellaborate on the genesis
of this Band and how each of the members
were summoned to participate?
Ammonal
is an Italian Melodic Death Metal band,
founded in 2008 by Renzo and Leo,
respectively the bass player and the
guitarist of the Melodic Death Metal band
EarthFlame. After a while the guitarist
Andrea joined them and together they started
to work at the new project. After some
months and some line up changes, Leo became
also the singer of the band and in February
2009 the keyboarder Federico joined the line
up.In October 2009, after a long search, the
drummer Moreno finally joins the band and in
April 2010 Ammonal records the first
demo:“Beginning The End Of Everything”.
2.
AMMONAL has been described as Melodic Death
metal, but your subject matter is quite
different from the typical Melodic metal
band. How would you describe your music?
We
define our music ALTERNATIVE melodic death
metal, because we start from the traditional
melodic death metal that we evolve affecting
it with other musical genres , trying to
bring some innovations in the extreme metal
scene, that at the moment seems to be
filled.
3.
You have recently just recorded single
“Bloof from the Sky”, I’m guessing
you’ve come a bit since. How’s the
writing process going, any plans so far for
next recording session?
We’re
settling the final details of the new songs,
after which we’ll be ready to record our
first full length album. Unfortunately we
had some line-up problem that slowed all the
proceeding, but we are recovering.
4.
It would be interesting to know how many
hours a day you rehearse? Does anyone of you
spends time for self-improving by working
alone?
We
go to the rehearsal room once a week,
but each one rehearses at home according to
the time that has free. Unfortunately the
work doesn’t leave much free time.
5.
How is the Metal-scene in Europe right now
for you guys, specially in Italy? Are you
getting the gigs and exposure you think you
deserve?
In
Europe I don’t know, but in Italy is very
hard. Seems that the system is trying to
prevent emerging artists to make music, the
clubs are very powerful and they play
especially bands pushed by agencies or
recommended, because they aren’t
interested in promoting the music but only
in making a profit.
The
cooperation between different bands is poor,
then it’s like a daily battle to earn the
public’s attention.
The
major labels are in all Europe except in
Italy, so an Italian band that want to
succeed must try its luck in other
countries, and I think that if we were born
in another country now we would be much
know.
6.
Italian bands are taking over the scene in
good way. How do you feel about Italian
scene? Would you change anything about scene
there or scenes around the world?
In
Italy there are a lot of excellent bands ,
but as I told before, the path is long and
difficult. I
think that the metal scene currently lacks
originality.
7.
What inspires you to make the music you
make? Tell us exactly what message you are
trying to get across with your music?
Metal
music, especially the extreme one, is a
strong and aggressive genre, so both the
arguments of the lyrics and the sensations that lead us to play this music is the
violence in society. Death metal, as its
name suggests, talks about death and
everything that revolves around it, so
playing this music became like a sort of
exorcism to death itself.
About
us, at the moment we are trying to
revolutionize a little the scene, bringing
new musical influences.
8.
How important is the keyboard as an
instrument in AMMONAL, and how do you
develop these parts? You may wonder why I
ask specially about this instrument, and the
reason is that mostly extreme Metal bands
that is closer to Death Metal than Black
Metal seldom use the keyboard…
Keyboard
in this
genre is very important, and in our songs is
very present. Without keyboard the
atmosphere of the songs would be different
and maybe you’ll feel them empty.
9.
What makes a band special? What is that
vital ingredient that separates a good band
from a great one?
I
think the originality. By now there are
thousand of bands who can play well, so the
important thing is to bring something that
others bands don’t have.
10.
How do you perceive the advances of
technology and the internet changing the
music industry in the future?
Technologies
is helping a many band to be kwown
internationally, and this is very important.
20 years ago our music would have been known
by a few people, but right now a lot of
people around the world write to us their
congatulations by Facebook and Myspace.
11.
Alright, we’ve come to an end. Do you have
any final thoughts? Thank you for your
time…
Thank
you, we
say goodbye to all the readers and we invite
them to give a listen to our music at www.myspace.com/ammonalmetal
and all other social networks, you will not
regret!!
