BLEEDING
UTOPIA is formed by pretty experienced
musicians coming from previous established
Bands, Tell us please a few words about your
early days as BU and how have you developed
your musical direction?
It all
started back inte the early years in 2000.
Andreas recorded a few songs and decided to
give them a new life in 2010. All members in
the band are from the underground scene, and
we put it all together from there. Andreas
Only asked the people he realy wanted to
play with, people he knew fitted his way of
thinking when writing music. And every man he
asked Said yes and thats Good or Bleeding
utopia may not exist.
In the
middle of 90ies came the melodic death metal
in fashion, such bands like IN FLAMES, DARK
TRANQUILLITY, ARCH ENEMY or AT THE GATES
popped up. It´s obvious you have turned
into this melodic direction, it was
intentional?
Sure, all
those bands had a huge influence on us back
then. But we tried to put some of our own edge
to it. Mixing brutallity with lots of
melodic stuff. We like the melodies from at
the Gates, dissection , amon amarth and
the rawness from old Metallica, slayer and
the madness from the black dahlia murder,
Nile, Lamb of god, meshuggah and the awesome
heavieness from entombed, dismember, grave
etc etc. We have also listened to alot of
black metal and old heavy metal. So We try
to take all of our influences and to make it
our own. We are not looking to sound like
any of the bands above. We are in the end
trying to sound like Bleeding Utopia.
As for the
old scene and especially NIHILIST/ENTOMBED,
who in my opinion were the forerunners of
the European death metal movement, they have
discovered a new sound which was improved to
perfection. This was the, so called,
chainsaw sound, which was created in the
Sunlight Studio by Tomas Skogsberg. Do you
like the sound of the early ENTOMBED; GRAVE
or DISMEMBER albums? Did the sound of the
early records of these bands bring the
reputation for the Sunlight Studio and Tomas
Skogsberg?-
Entombed
and Dismember are bands that Andreas and
David grew up with. Just loving the straight
and raw sound of "death and roll".
It was like getting an fist in the face and
I believe that the sound wouldn´t be the
same without Tomas. He put the new
"swedish" sound into
detahmetal
Where do
you think the violence in your music comes
from? / What inspires the rage in your
music? And also musically what bands have
the most influence on you?
First of
all, this is what we want to play
and challange ourselves. Then the rage can
come from anything, a memory from and
old phsyco girlfriend perhaps (haha) or just
things that happens all around us. When we
read things in newspapers or se on tv that
we think is sick and disturbing I (Andreas )
us that to write and agro song. Andreas is
very interested in WW1 and WW2 And what
humans are capable to under alot of stress
and brain wash. All bands above have had a
part in my life since years and years ago
What is
Death Metal for you ? What Death Metal band
do you like and how do you consider the new
Death Metal generation ? You know the
development in the metal scene - it's more
and more splitting up into different genres
and the fan bases are more and more getting
in conflicts with each other. What is your
opinion about this development?
Death metal
is a form of music where you have to
challange yourself. Specially nowadays when
everything has to be perfect. Every
music genre has it´s substitute and you can´t
walk around getting pissed at people cause
they disagree with you. We do what we do,
like it or not.
Sweden's
black metal scene is quite big and has a lot
of many great bands. Do you think that the
fact you are coming from there helps you in
a way or is it bad because of the big circle
of good bands?
I can only
look at it from the bright side. It´s good
for all metalbands in Sweden that other
bands reach succes. Then people wants to
check out more of whats going on up north
What makes
a band special? What is that vital
ingredient that separates a good band from a
great one? Do you have a solid fan base in
Sweden?
Potential
and how to sell your product. It slowly
grows
What are
your goals in making music? Would you like
to perform in some big events someday or are
you making music just for pleasure?
We want to
go as far as possible, but wouldn´t be
doing this if it was no fun
What
do you think about video clips? Would you
like to do one for BLEEDING UTOPIA in the
future?
Sure
Can you
explain the method of songwriting employed
by BU? Is the writing process generally
collective or does one member often craft
the song on his own?
For our
upcoming album Andreas had alot of
material. But we allways put it all together
as a band
How do you
record your material? Do you use digital or
analog equipment for the creation of your
deadly hymns?
Digital, we
record drums and bas in one studio the
record guitars and vocals in own little
studio.
What do you
expect from the near future? Is there
anything special you have in mind for coming
releases and gigs?
We are
working on our first album and hopefully it
will be done after the summer. We have some
gigs booked but the focus is now to get the
record done
That’s
all from me. I wish you all the best and I
thank you warmly for the chance to speak
with you.
Thank you
